reed seifer's wish piece

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Supermarket HQ (similar to Etsy), is a site that says, "Hi, we’re Supermarket.
We're here to connect you directly with designers and the great things they make." And they do.

Reed Seifer's Wish Piece was the first thing I bookmarked. Six matches, three each marked selfish and unselfish, meant for striking to grant wishes. I can't think of a person I wouldn't give these too as a gift.

housefish's suspended bed

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Housefish (a furniture designer) has an incredibly cool suspended bed for sale on their site. It's a little out of my price range at the moment ($3000), but it's definitely something I'd love to own in the future. Unfortunately it's a limited edition (only to 5!), so I doubt I'll ever have one. But hey, it's still up there and I've had this bookmarked for several months, so you never know!

banksy uk

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Banksy is an incredible UK graffiti artist whose work challenges social norms. Everything he does, including indoor graffiti and pen-and-ink drawings, is thought-provoking, often funny, many times sad and truly inspired.

I came across information on him after reading an article on the BBC News, looked up his website and proceeded to bookmark it in my "interesting" folder.

etsy: dancesippydance's eugene

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I love everything about Etsy… the site is awesome, the people who sell on it are awesome and did I mention the site is awesome? There are thousands upon thousands of products, so they've provided numerous ways to search (aside from category), including by color, by location and by pounce (where you can look at undiscovered shops, or recent shops that have had a sale).

DanceSippyDance creates incredible little sculptures of monsters, and I adore them. I plan to buy Eugene the Scream, and that's the one I have bookmarked.

olson sundberg kundig allen architects: chicken point cabin

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

I love Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects. Their designs are inspired and unique, their website is hands-down fantastic (all CSS, not a table in sight) and I desperately want them to build my house.

Their Chicken Point Cabin is one of three homes that I've bookmarked. The home sits on a lake, and a glass wall (30 feet by 20 feet) opens with a pulley system, giving the entire home the feel of being outside.

The Olson Cabin is another favorite… evoking a treehouse in the woods.

design*sponge

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I love Design*Sponge… a) it's gorgeously designed and b) lists very cool products and design ideas. Sometime last year they updated the design and they did an amazing job. It's unique, full of textures and colors and different mediums… just go check it out.

It's one of the sites I go too when I need inspiration.

pete goldlust's carved crayon

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Pete Goldlust is an artist who uses multiple mediums to create incredibly unique pieces. My favorite of these is a collection of intricately hand-carved crayons.

I'm positive a blogger posted about these, but I've no idea which one, as this link has been in my bookmark bar for over a year.

mark story: living in three centuries

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Living in Three Centuries: The Face of Age is an incredible collection of black and white photos of centenarians (people 100 and older). The images are moving and really reflect how different living conditions affect people's bodies. A woman who is 86 looks older than a man who is 112 (who, by the way, drove until he was 106)… each picture has notes, some longer than others, about the life and times of each person.

In his artist statement, the photographer (Mark Story) states: "The experience of talking with a 110 year-old man whose father stood next to Abraham Lincoln during the Gettysburg Address does not easily lend itself to words. A photograph seemed appropriate."
